I’ve written about Reps PR-4000 Power Rack extensively in the past, and for a good reason!

It’s an absolute beast of a rack, and the value it provides is fantastic.

For most people, you don’t need super beefy 1″ hardware at all, and on top of that, having a bunch of customization options is a massive plus for maximizing space in your home gym.

I had a tough time choosing my favorite overall Power Rack, but I knew it would be Rogue.

The RML-390F Monster Lite Rack is a flat-foot version of the RML-3 Rack and is the top-rated power rack from Rogue in this price range!

I think the biggest reason I recommend this is the flat-foot design.

Not having to bolt the rack down is a huge selling point for those training in their garage.

One of the most recurring statements I noticed is just how stable this rack is.

It’s a Rogue rack, so the quality is always going to be there, they have a ton of different attachments for their Monster Lite series racks, and for the price, this is one of the best options you can get.

The Rogue RM-6 Monster Rack is quite literally a monster!

There’s a reason that Rogue is so well known, considering they have beastly racks such as this one.

This is by far their top rack, and the fact that it’s a 6 post rack with 8 plate storage means even the base model is worth it!

Here are just a few of the main reasons I recommend this rack over others in this price range.

First up, they have many different customization options to build your RM-6 however the hell you want!

You can choose from three different rack heights, ranging from 90″ to 108″.

Plus, there are many different colors you can select from as well!

They include bright blue, bright green, burnt orange, dark blue, dark red, gunmetal, light gray, Rogue Red (my personal favorite for obvious reasons), satin black, and finally satin, clear.

That’s a pretty impressive color range if I say so myself, and I do, so get over it!

You also can choose between hardware finishes, black zinc being the default and bright zinc the upgrade option.

The pullup options include:

  • A single pullup bar.
  • A single fat bar.
  • Their black smooth socket pullup bar.
  • A monster fat/skinny bar.

If you need a specific pullup bar on your rack, Rogues got you covered.

There are a few crossmembers as well:

  • Monster Fat/Skinny, which is literally just two bars
  • Monster beam with gusset
  • Overbuilt crossmember sporting Rogues Name Plate

Just a few to choose from, though, so no big deal.

The final options are three different J-cups and safeties.

The J-cups you can select are:

I have sandwich J-cups from Rep. I definitely prefer these over standard J-cups, so I recommend Rogues as well.

And, of course, the safeties. These are something that every home gym owner needs to consider for their rack, especially if you’re training alone.

The RM-6 has pin/pipe safeties as default, with their strap safety net and flip-down safeties as the upgrade options.

I love strap and flip-down safeties, so I absolutely believe they’re worth the investment for your security as well as your barbell’s safety.

Nobody likes dumping a bar and dinging up an expensive barbell, after all!

Once you’re done building the RM-6 Power Rack to your exact specifications, you can then add on all Rogues Monster Rack attachments and accessories.

There are a ton of them to choose from as well, so I definitely think this rack, with its unlimited options, is the best high-end rack by far!

If you want the best high-end rack and have a massive budget, just get the Monster RM-3 Power Rack from Rogue.

It’s by far the best and completely worth the investment if you can swing it.

Runner-Up Power Rack For The Money – REP PR-5000 V2 Power Rack

This rack is the big brother to the PR-4000 Power Rack that I highly recommend.

It has all the same features and attachments that the 4000 model has with only a few minor differences.

  1. Uses beefier 1″ hardware to provide an even more stable rack overall.
  2. Features laser-cut numbering on EVERY hole instead of every 5th hole.
  3. Instead of using Westside spacing through the bench area, it has 2″ spacing throughout.
  4. The final difference is that they have similar attachments, but they’re constructed differently and cost more due to the 1″ holes.

Overall, if you want a rack without skimping on quality, I would choose the PR-5000 over the 4000.

If you aren’t planning on Powerlifting massive weights over 500 lbs regularly, the PR-4000 is plenty.

They’re both fantastic racks, but if you want something high-end with all the bells and whistles, the PR-5000 V2 is what you want to get!

The Rogue Monster Cave is an even bigger beast than the RM-5 Monster Rack.

Mainly because of how the rack is set up and all the other features added, which allows for a ridiculous amount of customization.

The uprights, panels, and rack crossmembers have a few different options.

The uprights come in 90” and 100” variations.

The panels that connect from the rack to the cable pulley systems come in 30” and 43“.

And finally, the rack itself has 24” or 30” 4 post rack depths, as well as 21.5” and 41.5” fold-in rack depths.

Right from the get-go, you can see just how much you can build this rack for your exact needs.

Also, did I mention it comes with two pulley systems? I think I kinda did…

I haven’t even gone over the other big features the Rogue Monster Cave has, as there are too many to count.

It doesn’t have as many configurations as the Monster Cave, but it’s pretty similar.

The best part is that it’s still cheaper than Rogues’ least expensive option, even with everything added.

This rack from Bells Of Steel is one of the best values on the market. So much so that they claim it as the best value on their site.

I actually agree with them; otherwise, their Light Commercial Rack wouldn’t be here in the first place.

Some of the best things about it are the base rack’s price and what you actually get with it.

The base price with nothing added is less than $600, which is a steal when you include everything included!

You get a pair of sandwich j-cups which are superior to standard j-cups by far as they protect your bar much better.

They also have a SECOND pair of roller j-cups that allow you to slide the bar back and forth to ensure you’re lined up for Squats and Pressing movements easier.

Having two pairs of high-quality j-cups is an excellent value right off the bat. Still, you also get a couple of spotter straps, definitely an improvement over generic pin/pipe safeties.

The PR-1100 Power Rack from Rep Fitness is the best budget power rack on the market by far!

Most racks in this price range aren’t very impressive whatsoever. They usually have horrible j-cups and safeties, no attachments really work with them, and on top of that, they’re generally not very well constructed.

Luckily, this rack from REP is in a league of its own!

I’ve recommended it for years, and I’ve received a ton of feedback from you guys that have had a chance to try it out.

It really is an excellent budget rack that has way more options than others at this price point.

The first significant feature I love about this rack is its height-adjustable, multi-grip pullup bar.

This allows you to do any pullup variations you prefer while also allowing you to invert the bar to accommodate lower ceilings and shorter lifters.

It also has laser engraved numbered uprights, which is unheard of for budget racks.

Knowing where the hell to make adjustments for your j-cups, safeties, and attachments is a huge deal trust me!

Another issue with cheap budget racks is the crappy j-cups they include. Metal bar on metal j-cup will tear your bar up over time.

That’s why REP has their shit together and constructed theirs with UHMW plastic which protects your bar.

Amazing concept, right?

The final thing going for this incredibly budget rack is that it actually has attachments built for it!

Sure, they’re definitely not the same quality as the beefier attachments REP makes, but they aren’t supposed to be!

You can get lat and low row attachments, dip bars, landmines, weight horns, and even weight storage as well.

Honestly, for most people that just want to lift and save a ton of space in their garage gym, this is plenty!

The Power Rack 4.1 from Bells Of Steel is the little brother of their beefier 5.1 model.

However, this version is made more for home gyms owners with a smaller budget, making it the perfect runner-up option.

This rack has a lot of the same configurations as the Power Rack 5.1.

It comes in 84.5” and 72” heights for shorter ceilings which are always nice for home gyms.

You can also add on the following attachments:

  •  Lat pulldown/low row

  • And pretty much everything else that the more expensive racks have

Sure, they’re all priced the same, but that makes it easier to upgrade to a bigger rack from them down the road. 

From what I’ve found, all of their attachments should be compatible with all of their racks.

So if you decide you want to get their Power Rack 5.1 or all the way up to their Brute Rack 2.1, you don’t have to sell your attachments and start over, luckily!

Benefits Of A Power Rack

There are many benefits to owning a power rack, which I’ve covered in the past.

However, there are just a few of the main ones that you should consider when determining if you need one in your home gym!

Short answer: you definitely should have one!

Attachments To Expand Training Options

One of my favorite discoveries in the past few years since buying my original power rack was that you can get attachments for your rack.

If you’re focused on building muscle, you can add cable systems to your rack to train different divisions of your musculature in the most optimal way possible.

Suppose you just want to get as strong as possible. In that case, you can get monolift attachments to make benching and squatting easier. Or even belt squat attachments to push your lower body strength up without beating up your back as much.

Bottom line – no matter what type of lifting you do, getting a power rack compatible with many different attachments is a great idea.

Safety While Training Alone

If you’re like me, you’re training all by your lonesome, and nobody wants to be consistent enough to work out with you long-term.

Trust me, I get you.

When you’re trying to push for new personal records week after week and month after month, you absolutely need to have something in case you misgroove the bar on your bench.

Well, there’s this cool thing you can add to your rack that comes pretty standard, and that’s the safeties that go with them.

You can get these with the following standard safety options:

  • Pin/pipe designs that are cheap but will bang your bar up
  • Strap safeties that are much quieter to drop onto if you need to
  • Flip-down safeties with heavy-duty plastic that protects your bar

Rest assured, if you buy any of the racks mentioned in this post, you can train hard and not worry about injuring yourself, as the safeties are there to bail you out!

Better Gains

This is a big one because we all want to get bigger, stronger, and just better at whatever training we’re attempting to do.

It’s much easier to add weight to the bar on an overhead press when you can just unrack it, press it, and rerack it.

Especially compared to the alternative, which is to clean the bar each set, get set up, waste energy, and press from that position.

If you don’t have a rack, this is a perfectly acceptable solution that will eventually build you up bigger and stronger over the long haul.

However, if you’re trying to clean and press a bar overhead, drop the bar onto your back, and then squat the weight, you’re not going to get anywhere near your squat potential!

That’s why having a power rack is so essential, as you can simply unrack the bar, do your set, and rerack it. Simple and safe.

Plus, since you have the safeties I mentioned in the last tip, you can train much harder and push yourself, knowing that you’re not going to get injured if you can’t finish your rep.

That peace of mind will allow you to push your strength and muscle mass to new heights.

Exercise Variation

Building on the previous points, having a power rack in your home gym provides you with many different exercise variations!

An adequately set up power rack with nothing else added gives you this movement selection:

  • Bench Press Variations
  • Overhead Press Variations
  • Squat Variations
  • Pull-up Variations

This might not sound like a lot, but that’s the basis of a fantastic strength training program.

Plus, you technically don’t need a power rack to do deadlift and row variations to round everything out.

But now, here’s where adding attachments will give you even more usability than you can possibly imagine!

If you add iso lever arms, you can do many different machine exercises, such as rowing and pressing movements, leg presses, hack squats, belt squats, and more! It really is up to your imagination.

Now, if you add dip bars and landmine attachments, you open a whole new world of movements that use your power rack as its base.

You can include band pegs to make barbell movements more difficult or do the opposite and make your pull-ups and dips easier.

This is another essential feature you need to consider.

If you train with other people, and you’re not all the same height with the same structures, you’re going to need to make adjustments.

Whether that’s moving your J-cups around or even just getting your safeties in a better position, power racks are fully modular for a reason.

The hole spacing they have allows for many different adjustments to fit pretty much any size lifter.

I recommend you get at least 1″ hole spacing if you lift with others, as it will be much easier to get things set up correctly.

Almost all of the racks I mentioned in this guide have that at minimum, with only a few budget racks having 2″ spacing.

Overall, though, a power rack is highly adjustable by nature, making it perfect for lifters of all shapes and sizes.

There are a few things you need to pay attention to when you’re interested in getting a power rack for your home gym.

These aren’t in any particular order, but some are definitely more important than others!

Price Point

This one should be super obvious, but before anything else, you have to consult your budget before going off and buying a $1,000 rack.

It’s an unfortunate fact of life, but heavy-duty steel costs money, and you need to accept this fact even though it hurts.

Luckily though, I’ve given you guys many options from around $250 all the way up to $5,000+.

They’re all quality racks, so don’t worry too much if you can’t get everything you want all at once.

Almost every one of them is upgradeable, so you can add things over time instead of all at once.

Space Needed To Store The Rack

Right after the price, you need a space to store your rack.

If you only have a one-car garage with a super low ceiling, your options are going to be limited.

Thankfully, I had the foresight to include racks with smaller footprints and shorter uprights to fit most home gyms.

The Type Of Rack You Need

Everybody has different needs for their garage gym.

You might need one that’s more compact like my last point, or you need something compatible with a specific pulley system because you want cables in your gym.

You might not even want a traditional 4-post power rack and prefer something like a half rack.

The options are limitless, so it’s important to decide what type of training you will do and what you need to get the job done.

Weight Capacity Of The Rack

This is a big one you have to pay attention to!

If you’re a beginner lifter and have no need for a massive 1,000 lb weight capacity, you really don’t need to spend more money on an 11 gauge rack when you’re just starting out.

I recommend you do so because you don’t have to upgrade later on, but it isn’t completely necessary.

On the flip side, if you’re a competitive powerlifter or strength athlete, you most likely want a heavy-duty rack. That way, you can train safely without the rack shaking around and crumpling when you miss a big squat.

Aside from the budget racks I’ve recommended, every single rack in this guide has a weight capacity of at least 1000 lbs, so you’re set!

Structural Integrity

This goes right along with the weight capacity of your rack.

Ideally, you want a rack with a lot of stability, can bolt down, and has high-quality welds with thick gauge steel.

The better the power racks’ construction, the safer you’ll be and the more gains you’ll be able to make over the long haul.

Just remember, budget racks are fine; cheap racks are not.

Attachment Compatibility

Skip this section if you just want a basic power rack without any other uses.

This is probably one of the biggest benefits of owning a power rack for everybody else.

If your rack is compatible with many different attachments, you can expand your training arsenal considerably!

Adding pulleys for cable work opens up a bunch of exercise selections that can make a big difference if you’re trying to build the most muscle possible.

Suppose you want something that will mimic many machine exercises. In that case, lever arms give you a ton of new variations to try out.

Then, of course, you have a ton of other options should as different pull-up bars, dip bars, landmine attachments, and more!

The more attachments available for your rack, the better.


This is one of the more essential aspects of a power rack you have to consider, the safeties that your rack can use.

If you train alone or don’t trust your mom to spot you with heavy weights, having high-quality safeties to save your life is critical.

We’ve all seen people almost die from failing a bench press, and that really is a shitty way to go.

I recommend either strap or flip-down safeties as they’re much higher quality than pin/pipe ones.

Plus, they protect your barbell instead of damaging it.

Weight Storage

If your rack has optional weight horns or storage options, you can maximize your training space and add more stability to your rack by weighing it down.

This is just a nice way to keep your gym tidier and make loading/unloading your weights much more accessible.

Saving time to focus on training and less time on excuses is always a good thing.

It’s definitely worth it for these reasons alone. Still, if you get different attachments to expand your training options, it’s even more worth it.

This is going to depend entirely on your own budget.

Do I need to bolt down my power rack?

If your rack is constructed of heavy-duty steel such as 3×3″ 11 gauge, you probably don’t need to bolt it down as it’s probably stable enough.

If you have a much lighter rack made of 14 gauge steel, I recommend bolting it down as it will shake around and move as you rack/unrack the bar.

How do you secure a power rack without bolting?

The best way to secure a power rack without bolting it down is by adding weight horns and storage to your rack.

That way, you can add more stability simply by having plates weighing it down.

You can also get front foot extensions which also help stabilize your rack.

Are power racks safe without a spotter?

If you have safeties in your power rack, and you should, then power racks are perfectly safe without a spotter.

However, I cannot stress this enough, make sure your safeties are set to the correct height, so you can do two things.

  1. Low enough, so you can still train your full range of motion 
  2. High enough, so you don’t try to dump the bar and get pinned before the safeties catch it
